The Mosby's Raiders Treasure
The Mosby's Raiders Treasure
Colonel John S. Mosby may have been known as "The Grey Ghost,"
because of his cunning guerrilla fighting endeavors, but in the end,
his 350,000 treasure is the only thing that vanished. Legend has it that
after the Mosby Raiders captured 60 prisoners and their horses from
Fairfax County, they were unable to transport both their looted treasure
in excess of $350,000 and the prisoners. They stopped along the way in
between the towns of Culpeper and Norman, and buried the treasure in
between two trees. He sent seven men back to retrieve the stash, but
they were captured and hung. Mosby never went back nor told anyone where
 the buried treasure was located.
