The Beale Ciphers
The Beale Ciphers
So the story goes, a man named Thomas J. Beale found some
treasure in the 1820s worth over 60 million dollars. He and his men
wanted the treasure to be safe for their next of kin, so they buried it
in Bedford County, Virginia. Beale made three cyphers: one revealing the
location, another the contents and the third, the next of kin. Beale
delivered the cyphers in a box to a local inn keeper and was never seen
again. The cyphers were opened. The contents scroll was decoded while
the other two are still a mystery. A lot of skepticism entered the
picture here where people believe Beale to be a fictional character, and
because the scrolls had wording that wasn't used at the date the
scrolls were made.
